Spring has sprung and flowers are starting to bloom. Today’s mood board is inspired by a hot spring fashion trend – abstract floral prints! I love fashion just as much as I love interior design, and in the design world, interior design trends in textiles typically follow fashion trends. I love this trend because floral fabrics have become more than just your grandma’s go to, and they’re not just for little girls any more either! Lots of fun bold patterns and colors in more abstract modern patterns make this a really easy trend to incorporate into any room – especially this spring and summer.
For this mood board I was inspired by an image of runway models rocking this trend with bold colors and black accents. I interpreted it into a room scheme by using an abstract floral fabric as a base and finding some more subtle (in pattern – not color) coordinating fabrics to pop the colors in the floral fabric. I also used a bold stripe – I think the mix of floral and stripes was made for each other! The black wallcovering with ruffled stripes would be perfect on an accent wall for a really dramatic look. If black is a little too bold for you, don’t worry, it comes in white too! Don’t want to use the floral fabric for your window treatments? That’s OK, use it for pillows or seat cushions – it will still pack a punch and liven up your sofa, chairs, or bed.
Don’t forget to accessorize your room just like you would any outfit! Here I show a fun pendant light fixture with just the right amount of sparkle and a really interesting geometric mirror. Some bright fresh artwork would also do the trick! Use your neutral furniture as a base and invest in some new pillows, window treatments, and accessories to add a pop of color to your home this spring!
